My Neighbor Jenna

There is a young girl who lives in my neighborhood. She lives around the corner. One day I was pruning roses and she came walking by the house. Then about 5 minutes later she came by again. And then again and again. Finally I asked her what she was up to. She told me that she likes to walk to help promote her daydreaming. She has lots of ideas and finds that when she walks, her ideas take more form. I thought that she would be interested to know that I am an "inventor" of sorts. Creating stickers is certainly not akin to finding the cure to cancer, but it is a creative effort and there is definitely a particular creative process that occurs. Gena was all ears. I told her that often times my best ideas come when I am not trying to make them come. For example, when I am pruning roses. My mind is clear and free of thought. I am focused on making just the right cut to shape the rose bush to maximize the growth of the plant. And them BAM! I get an idea that was just brewing around in my head and BINGO I run into the house and write it down. Mind you, sometimes these "brilliant" ideas that I write down prove to be far less than "brilliant". But that's ok. I just go back to my pruning and wait for the next epiphany to occur.

I think that in general you cannot force the creative process. If you are working on a scrapbook page or on a craft project, I suggest that you look at lots of magazines, let the ideas brew in your head overnight and there is a very good chance that you will find the perfect answer to your project. The beauty of this process is that the idea that you create in your head is a blend of different ideas you have put into the mix. The end result is uniquely yours and that is such a fun thing to do. Copying a layout exactly is not nearly as satisfying as taking a little from here and a little from there and making it your own!

Take a look at the cover of the acrylic Easter album above. With the cover as a creative start, put together the rest of the album simply using papers, stickers, ribbons, flowers and bling. And if you need a little help with your project, ask your local scrapbook store who carries SRM Stickers to give you some guidance. They would love to help you make a 1 of a kind masterpiece!
